Mackenyu, Madison Iseman, Sean Bean, Famke Janssen, Nick Stahl, Diego Tinoco and Mark Dacascos are set to lead “Knights of the Zodiac,” a live-action film adaptation of Masami Kurumada’s 1980s manga and anime series “Saint Seiya”.
The manga and anime followed warriors known as The Saints who gather their powers from the constellations. They gather to defend the reincarnated goddess Athena from other gods who intend to take over the Earth.
Mackenyu plays Seiya, a street orphan who embarks on a journey and must choose a side in the battle for the fate of Sienna (Iseman), a young girl who struggles to control her godly powers.
Toei Animation and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions are behind the project which has reportedly already wrapped production in Hungary and Croatia. Polish animator Tomasz Baginski (“The Witcher”) is directing.
Josh Campbell and Matt Stuecken (“10 Cloverfield Lane”) wrote the most recent drafts. Andy Cheng (“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”) served as stunt and fight coordinator.
