A new report in The Sun indicates that “Sherlock” and “Doctor Strange” star Benedict Cumberbatch has joined the cast of the currently filming “Dungeons and Dragons” movie in the UK.
If correct, his addition to the cast of the fantasy role-playing game turned feature will see him re-teaming with his “Star Trek Into Darkness” co-star Chris Pine along with Michelle Rodriguez and “Bridgerton” star Rege-Jean Page.
It won’t be his first dabbling with the franchise, the actor narrated the recent animated short film “Sleep Sound” which serves as an origin story of the Drizzt Do’Urden from the Forgotten Realms campaign of the game. The trade also says part of the reason is sheer travel convenience as the project is now shooting near Cumberbatch’s home base in the UK.
The actor wrapped his lead role “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” around two months ago and almost every other project he’s been linked to in recent times – from Colin Trevorrow’s “War Magician” to the Steven Knight-penned “Rio” to the new “The 39 Steps” mini-series – are all still in the scripting/planning stages and a while off from filming.
Shooting on “Dungeons and Dragons” has recently been taking place at Wells Cathedral in Somerset and Alnwick Castle in Northumberland.
