Coming off raves for HBO’s “Watchmen” in 2019 and both “Mare of Easttown” and “Hacks” this year, celebrated actress Jean Smart has now joined the cast of “La La Land” and “First Man” director Damien Chazelle’s Old Hollywood epic “Babylon”.
Plot details are under wraps, but Smart is expected to play a Hollywood journalist and film critic with the power to make or break careers.
She joins a stacked cast that includes Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, Tobey Maguire, Samara Weaving, Olivia Wilde, Katherine Waterston, Max Minghella, Lukas Haas, Diego Calva, Jovan Adepo, Li Jun Li, Flea, Rory Scovel, Eric Roberts, P.J. Byrne, Damon Gupton, Spike Jonze and Phoebe Tonkin.
Filming is currently underway in Los Angeles with Chazelle directing from his own script. Olivia Hamilton, Matt Plouffe and Marc Platt will produce.
“Babylon” arrives in cinemas in limited release on Christmas Day 2022 followed by a wide release two weeks later.
