Loki Already Confirmed How Weird The MCU Multiverse Will Be

Loki episode 5 features lots of Easter eggs and details that confirm how bizarre the MCU’s multiverse can become in Phase 4 and beyond.

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Loki episode 5.

The events of Loki episode 5 prove how bizarre the MCU’s multiverse is going to be. After being pruned by Ravonna Renslayer and subsequently thrown into a place at the end of time, Loki meets more variants of himself. These variants welcome Loki and explain their dire predicament to him: they’re stuck in a world where everyone and everything the TVA discards is left to rot or get devoured by the monster Alioth. While the arrival of Sylvie and Mobius means that Loki’s stay in this cosmic prison is brief, the post-apocalyptic dystopia manages to give fans the most accurate look at the MCU’s multiverse so far.

The infamous Thanos-Copter, Throg, and Yellowjacket’s helmet are only some of the wildest Easter eggs scattered throughout Loki episode 5. Other unexpected elements include the real-life USS Eldridge and the enigmatic Polybius arcade machine. The Void is also populated by birds with balls for heads and, of course, a wide assortment of Loki variants that include Alligator Loki and President Loki.

Everything Loki found in the Void is but an introduction to the wild ride that the MCU’s multiverse is going to be. The Void is just one filthy and forsaken world. Imagine what multiple different universes will bring to the MCU. Each one could have its own gimmick. Perhaps one could adapt Marvel’s futuristic 2099 properties, while another could be based on the animal-centric Earth-8311 and another could be filled with extremely comic-accurate versions of MCU characters, just like Classic Loki.

Boastful Loki Kid Loki Alligator Loki and Classic Loki in Loki episode 5

What truly makes Loki episode 5 a strong step towards the multiverse is the relevance of the show’s bizarre elements within the main story. The series has succeeded in transforming an alligator and a cartoon clock into believable characters, giving a classic-costume-wearing Loki a sensational redemption, and cementing Loki’s love for his female counterpart Sylvie as the heart of the show. With Loki‘s wildest occurrences serving the story first and foremost, even the most absurd surprises don’t break the viewer’s suspension of disbelief or derail Loki’s character arc.

With WandaVision and Loki as the foundation, movies like Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness can push the boundaries of the audience’s expectations and introduce a full-fledged MCU multiverse where absolutely anything is possible. Loki may still feel flabbergasted by everything he has witnessed since he was captured by the TVA, but the madness of the MCU’s multiverse is just beginning.
