Harry Connick Jr has been cast as billionaire Sir Oliver ‘Daddy’ Warbucks in NBC’s upcoming special “Annie Live!” inspired by the iconic Tony-winning Broadway musical. The special will air in December.
He joins a cast that already includes Taraji P. Henson as Miss Hannigan. Albert Finney, Jamie Foxx and Reid Shelton have all played the Warbucks role in the past, while a nationwide casting search is underway to play Annie. [Source: NBC]
Miramax has acquired worldwide rights to Alexander Payne’s “The Holdovers” which will see him re-team with his “Sideways” star Paul Giamatti. David Hemingson wrote the script, Mark Johnson is producing and shooting begins in January in New England.
Giamatti plays Paul Hunham, a widely disliked private academy teacher who remains at school over the Xmas holidays to supervise the one student stuck there – a trouble-making 15-year-old named Angus. Robert Downey Jr. and Greg Berlanti (“Riverdale,” “The Flash”) are teaming up to produce an HBO Max series adaptation of Samantha Downing’s novel “For Your Own Good”. A search is underway for a writer to develop the novel.
The story takes place within the halls of New England’s prestigious Belmont Academy where among the competition for admissions, teacher honors and school planning a series of dead bodies have started to pile up at the university. [Source: THR]
Dark Pictures has begun development on “Paper Heart,” a biopic of former Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland who died in 2015 at age 48.
The tale will meld rock stardom with a blend of love story, addiction story and comeback story. Jennifer Erwin will pen the script based on Weiland’s memoir “Not Dead & Not for Sale”. She will also produce with Anne Beagan. [Source: THR]
