Set in post-war Germany, this tells the story of Hans (Franz Rogowski) who is repeatedly imprisoned for being gay. Screen Media has acquired U.S. rights to the comedy “Best Sellers” with Michael Caine, Aubrey Plaza, Cary Elwes, Scott Speedman, Ellen Wong and Veronica Ferres. Plans are to release the Lina Roessler-directed film theatrically and on-demand in September.
Anthony Grieco’s script centers on an ambitious young editor (Plaza) who decides to try to save the flailing publishing house her father left her by going on a book tour with the bitter, hard-drinking author (Caine) who helped establish the company several decades and an ocean of booze ago. Vertical Entertainment has scored North American distribution rights to romantic comedy “The Hating Game” starring Lucy Hale and Austin Stowell with plans to open it later this year. Peter Hutchings helms Christina Mengert’s adaptation of the Sally Thorne novel.
This follows the kind-hearted Lucy Hutton (Hale) and her cold, efficient nemesis Joshua Templeton (Stowell).
