Who Voices Planetina (Where You Know The Voice From)

Rick and Morty season 5 episode 3, “A Rickconvenient Mort,” introduces the Captain Planet-inspired superhero Planetina. Here’s how you know her voice.

Rick and Morty season 5 episode 3, “A Rickconvenient Mort,” introduces the Captain Planet-inspired superhero Planetina, but who voices the new character? The show’s continued focus on episodic storylines means each episode includes a number of special guest stars in addition to the core cast of Justin Roiland, Spencer Grammar, Chris Parnell and Sarah Chalke. Rick and Morty season 5 airs new episodes every Sunday on Adult Swim.

Through its first four seasons, Rick and Morty has featured the vocal talents of many prominent Hollywood stars. John Oliver, Christina Hendricks, Lance Reddick, Christian Slater, Keith David, Susan Sarandon, and Danny Trejo are just a few of the names that have appeared in the series’ credits. Prominent voice actors like John DiMaggio, Kari Wahlgren, and Eric Bauza have also voiced a number of Rick and Morty supporting characters. Part of the show’s fun is discovering each episode’s new kooky characters and the famous actors who voice them, and that trend continues in “A Rickconvenient Mort.”

Planetina is voiced by Alison Brie, best known for her longstanding TV roles as Trudy Campbell in Mad Men, Annie Edison in Community, and Ruth Wilder in GLOW. Brie also voiced the character of Diane Nguyen on BoJack Horseman, and has done guest voice work on series like American Dad, Robot Chicken, and Axe Cop. In 2014, Brie voiced Princess Unikitty in The LEGO Movie – a role she later reprised in 2019’s The LEGO Movie: The Second Part. She has also starred in live-action films like The Rental and Horse Girl, which she also co-wrote and produced.

Rick and Morty Planetina Alison Brie

Given Brie and Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon’s past work together on Community, it’s fun to see the star finally make a guest appearance. As both an acclaimed voice actor and a skilled comedian, Brie is the perfect kind of star to help bring Rick and Morty’s wild characters and storylines to life. Though Morty breaks up with Planetina by the end of the episode, she still exists in the world of the show, which means she could be brought back later in season 5, as many of the show’s former guest characters have done in the past.

It would make sense for Planetina to return given her significance to Morty’s ongoing character arc. Season 5 has shown a more seasoned and mature Morty – one who’s clearly still just a kid, but who has been through enough that he can handle himself without Rick being around. His relationship with Planetina ties into that overall development in some interesting ways, so hopefully fans can look forward to Brie reprising her Rick and Morty role sometime in the future.
